Which trips suit the pass?
The Berner Oberland Pass is designed for travellers making several journeys within the Bernese Oberland. Its value lies in combining main-line trains, local transport, boats and numerous mountain railways rather than covering one single route. Interlaken, Thun, Brienz, Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen are common bases, but the current official validity map is always decisive.
The 3, 4, 6, 8 and 10-day options run consecutively. A day without travel remains part of the validity period. A trip with long pauses or substantial travel outside the region may suit another combination better.
Full or reduced fare?
The official price table separates full fare, half-fare reduction, youth, child and dog products. A reduced price is not a general online discount. You must hold the card or pass required by the offer. A lower seller price does not replace proof of eligibility.
For children aged 6 to under 16 and dogs, the issuer lists a CHF 30 product for 2026 that is bought with a main pass. Accompanied children with a valid Swiss Family Card, Junior Card or Children’s Co-Travelcard do not require that child pass under the issuer’s current rules. Child groups are excluded.
Included travel, discounts and exceptions
Lines on the map do not all mean the same thing. Some trips are included, while others receive only a discount. Seasonal mountain railways also require a check of operating dates. Never assume that Jungfraujoch is fully covered merely because nearby lines appear on the map.
If your itinerary is almost entirely around Grindelwald, Wengen, Lauterbrunnen, Mürren and the Jungfrau railways, compare the Jungfrau Travel Pass. If you also plan the lakes, Thun, Brienz and several other excursion railways, the wider Berner Oberland Pass is often a better fit.

- Check every important mountain section and its operating season.
- Recheck passenger names, duration, class and required proof.

Common questions
Are all Bernese Oberland mountain railways free with the pass?+
No. The official map distinguishes included journeys, discounted sections and routes outside the pass. Check every planned mountain segment.
Who may buy the reduced fare?+
You need an accepted discount entitlement. Select this fare only when the required card or pass will remain valid throughout the trip.
Does every service run all year?+
No. Many mountain railways and boats are seasonal. Pass validity is not automatically extended when a service is closed.
Is this the same as the Jungfrau Travel Pass?+
No. The Jungfrau Travel Pass has a tighter regional network, different durations and its own exceptions.
