Gornergrat excursion
The Gornergrat Railway valley station is opposite Zermatt railway station. This makes a train connection convenient, but you should still leave a realistic margin. Zermatt is car-free; drivers stop in Täsch and must allow for the separate connection into Zermatt.
The operator gives about 33 minutes for the complete journey. The cogwheel railway climbs more than 1,500 metres. Timetables and frequency change by season, while maintenance may interrupt service. Check the specific travel date.
Findelbach, Riffelalp, Riffelberg and Rotenboden lie between Zermatt and Gornergrat. They are starting points for walks and hikes. If you leave the train, confirm that your ticket remains valid for the onward journey and return.
Gornergrat offers a different view of the Matterhorn from Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. The destinations require separate tickets. A combined product must name both excursions explicitly; similar product names do not establish shared validity.
Updated August 2026. Check the timetable, operating status and last descent with the Gornergrat Railway.
