1. Choose the origin and destination
Depending on the service, the Bernina Express runs from Chur or St Moritz to Tirano, and in the opposite direction. An offer covers only the stated section. Start by choosing the origin, destination and direction. The Bernina Express route shows the main stations.
2. Check the travel ticket
You need a valid travel ticket for the complete booked section. This may be an ordinary route ticket or an accepted travel entitlement such as a rail pass. If a pass covers only part of the journey or provides a discount, the remaining fare must be added correctly.
3. Book a seat in the same class
The panoramic coach also requires a seat reservation. The travel ticket and reserved seat must be for the same service and class. A separately sold reservation is not a complete ticket. Current official amounts are listed under Bernina Express prices 2026.
4. Confirm the train type in the offer
Not every product with “Bernina” in its name uses the panoramic coach. Regional trains also run on the Bernina Line and do not require the Bernina Express supplement. Day trips from Milan may use either train type. The specific offer description is decisive.

Common questions
Is the seat reservation mandatory?+
Yes, when you travel in the Bernina Express panoramic coach. This supplement does not apply to ordinary regional trains on the Bernina Line.
Is the Swiss Travel Pass enough?+
It may act as the travel ticket on an eligible section. You must still book the reserved Bernina Express panoramic seat separately.
Can I start the Bernina Express in Tirano?+
Yes, when the selected service and reservation start in Tirano. Check the direction and your planned return journey.
Can I take a bicycle?+
Self-service bicycle transport is not provided on the Bernina Express. The Rhaetian Railway’s relevant bicycle rules apply to regional trains.
