1. Exact valley and mountain stations
One mountain may have several railways and access points. Pilatus has routes from Kriens and Alpnachstad, while Rigi is served from Vitznau, Arth-Goldau and further cableways. In Zermatt, the Gornergrat Railway and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise use different valley stations. Identify the exact start and end points first.
2. Single, return or round trip
A single ticket does not automatically bring you back. A return covers both directions on the selected route. Round trips may also include a boat, bus or second mountain railway. The product name should match the route you intend to follow.
3. Use a reduction only with valid proof
The Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Half Fare Card and regional passes do not work in the same way on every mountain railway. Select a reduced option only when you can present the required pass on the travel date. The current validity map from the pass issuer or railway is decisive.
4. Operating status and last descent
Mountain railways may have seasonal timetables, maintenance closures and weather interruptions. Check the live status on the day and leave enough time for the last descent, especially before a connecting train or flight.

Does the Swiss Travel Pass include every mountain railway?+
No. Depending on the exact section, you may receive free travel, a reduction or no discount. Check the current validity map.
Does a ticket always include the return journey?+
No. Products may be sold as singles, returns, day passes or round trips. The selected option must cover your journey back down.
Must I reserve a time?+
That depends on the railway and season. A valid ticket does not guarantee a particular departure time at every destination.
What happens in poor weather?+
Weather and operating conditions may affect the journey. Check the live status and your seller’s cancellation terms before setting out.
